Specifications, Colors and Contents May Vary

Aren’t knockoffs just amusing sometimes? Or irritating, if you’re that guy. They try and try to lie to your face about what they are, but you’re too smart for that, aren’tcha?

Now it’s your turn to stop lying. You must’ve been fooled by one of those fakers at some point. But what if one of those fakers sincerely tried going legit, whilst simultaneously being their good ol’ lying selves?

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is not a knockoff. Duh. It’s pretty much Android’s current flasgship for best device. We’ve all seen it, be it through advertisements, friends, or maybe even pocket. But have you ever seen the Cherry Mobile Omega HD 2X? It’s likely you have, if peripherally. Besides the trademark button, it is identical to the S4 and even boasting similar specifications.

The S4 comes packing with a 1.6GHz processor with 2GB of RAM—it basically translates to fast and high performance—while Omega, on the other hand, also stands with 2GB and a 1.5GHz processor. The difference being that Samsung gets theirs from ARM and Cherry’s is from MediaTek. But, of course, the most important question is: “Does it make a difference?”

To be honest? Not really. Both chips utilize a Powerlogic GPU bringing them down to a relatively even field. Unless you’re playing the most demanding of games at the most stunning of quality, you won’t even notice a difference.

In terms of the more obvious, S4 sports a Full HD, 5.0”, Corning, 441ppi, AMOLED touchscreen. Omega has a Full HD, 5.7”, Dragontrail, 386ppi, IPS touchscreen. Technical terms aside, the difference here may be a bit more obvious. The Omega may have a bigger screen, but its colors won’t be as sharp as the S4’s. Again, though, this difference may not even be too noticeable for most people.

Overall, the Cherry phone isn’t actually so bad. If you’re desperate for cutting edge, top-of-the-line equipment and have the cash to burn, then by all means get the S4. But if you want a similar—slightly watered-down—experience, then get yourself the Cherry Omega HD 2X. You really won’t regret it.
